Tayo bowl with a traditional Asanoha pattern. This pattern symbolizes hemp leaves and represents growth and life energy, as the plants do not require much care and are very resilient.
Donburi Bowls: literally translated, Donburi just means "bowl". In Japanese cuisine, it is used to describe dishes in which a bowl of rice with side dishes (meat, vegetables, tofu or fish) is served on top. These bowls are often larger than normal rice bowls because the side dish does not have its own plate as usual.
As a rule, a Donburi dish is named after the side dish served on the rice. For example, the very popular gyudon is a bowl of rice topped with short-cooked thin beef with onions in a slightly sweet sauce. Oyakodon, the "parent-child bowl", refers to chicken cooked with onions and egg on rice. There are many different side dishes and you can get creative here. If you like fried pork, look for recipes for katsudon, vegetarians use (fried) vegetables. Sashimi on rice is also a very common variety.
