Zen.nl is the webshop of Zen.nl, the largest Buddhist organisation in the Netherlands, with 40 Zen Centers for Zen classes and meditation training in the Netherlands. Setting up your meditation space

A stable posture starts with the right cushion. A zafu meditation cushion tilts your pelvis forward so your spine stays upright without strain, while a zabuton mat protects knees and ankles. Prefer kneeling? Our benches sit in the same category. Cushions come filled with kapok or buckwheat in round, higher, crescent and children's models. Most of our meditation products are made in the Netherlands and India.

Japanese incense, bells and statues

For rhythm and focus in your practice: Japanese incense from makers such as Nippon Kodo and Shoyeido, including low smoke series, holders and burners. Our Buddhism section carries standing bells (rin), inkin hand bells, mokugyo, mala beads and statues of Buddha, Jizo, Kanzeon and Daruma. For tea and meals, browse authentic Japanese tableware: matcha bowls (chawan), kyusu teapots, sake sets and chopsticks.

Books on Zen, Buddhism and philosophy

Our book department is one of the largest in the Netherlands: Zen, Buddhism, mindfulness, nondualism, Taoism, philosophy, psychology and personal development, in both English and Dutch. Frequently asked questions

Which meditation cushion should I choose?

The tighter your hips, the higher the cushion. A standard zafu (about 15 cm) suits most people; choose a higher or crescent model for stiff hips, or a meditation bench if kneeling is more comfortable than cross-legged sitting.

What is the difference between a zafu and a zabuton?

The zafu is the cushion you sit on; the zabuton is the flat mat underneath that supports knees, ankles and feet. Together they form the classic Japanese meditation set.

Why do you only sell Japanese incense?

Connoisseurs swear by Japanese incense because of the soft subtle scents and the low smoke development. Unlike, for example, Indian incense, the Japanese variant does not use a bamboo stick base. The Japanese incense stick burns completely.
