Chopstick holder / Hashioki Mame Aka Asanoha

ceramics

color red
3.3 x 2.8 cm
height: 1.2 cm
High-quality Japanese chopsticks and hashioki: In Japanese food culture, unlike Europe, forks and knives are hardly used, and especially chopsticks. These chopsticks are called hashi in Japanese, the corresponding coasters are called Hashioki (literally: chopstick rest). You can find them on almost every table in Japan. After use, place the chopsticks on the hashioki; this prevents them from coming into contact with the table or falling. Chopsticks are placed in front parallel to the edge of the table, with the point to the left (for right-handers). The core of a Japanese chopstick is made of wood or bamboo. This is either covered with a thin, transparent layer of varnish, or extensively refined with several layers of colored varnish.
